N.C. Highway Patrol Trooper Matt Holloman investigates the scene of a collision on N.C. 55 Monday.

A head-on collision on N.C. 55 Monday afternoon sent five people to Wayne Memorial Hospital and has one man facing drinking and driving charges.

State Highway Patrol Officer J.M. Holloman said a 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse, driven by Erasmo Bartolon-Bartolon, 39, went completely into the oncoming lane where it collided with a 2001 Ford Mustang carrying five passengers.

No one suffered life-threatening injuries, said Holloman.

The collision occurred near Camp Jubilee Road around 12:30 p.m.

Bartolon-Bartolon has been charged with driving while impaired, careless and reckless driving, driving left of center, open container, no operator's license and failure to wear a seat belt.

The occupants in the Mustang included the driver, Maribel Trejo-Trejo, 28, of Country Run Lane; Mirna Belcarmen Lopez De-sura, 31, of Timothy Street in Dudley; Alex Perez, 18, of Southside Trailer Park in Dudley; Hugo Rodriguez, 19, of Smith Trailer Park in Dudley; Brenda Liz Gonzalez, 21, of Timothy Street in Dudley.

Holloman said both vehicles are believed to have been traveling the speed limit before the collision.

Holloman said that that everyone involved was alert and conscious following the accident, and that Ms. De-sura was the only person involved who refused treatment.

There was some attempt made by Trejo-Trejo to steer away from the oncoming Mitsubishi that had entered her lane, said Holloman.
