A family fun day is planned for Saturday as a benefit for a Brogden Middle School student recently diagnosed with cancer.

Isaiah Henderson, 12, is the grandson of county Board of Education member Len Henderson. In February he underwent his first surgery at Duke to remove a spinal cord tumor.

The sixth-grader continues to receive chemotherapy once a month, with doctors predicting that will likely take at least a year, said his grandfather.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will help with family medical bills and transportation back and forth to the hospital.

Saturday's event will be held from noon until 6 p.m. at Durham's Lake. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children. All students who wear their gold Relay for Life T-shirts from Brogden Middle School will be admitted free.

The afternoon will feature fishing, horseback riding, inflatables, bingo, gospel music and two rap groups from Durham -- the Wreck-n-Crew and Shaun Rogers.

Food items will also be sold and there is a nominal fee for the dunking booth and horseback riding, Len Henderson said.
