With school officially dismissed for the summer, Wayne County Public Schools began its annual summer flex schedule this week.
The district will operate on a 10-hour-day/four-day work week through Aug. 12. The central office on Royall Avenue will be closed on Fridays.
The administrative offices along with the child nutrition and exceptional children's departments will be open Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Hours of operation will vary at each of the 31 schools and other departments, including maintenance, transportation, diagnostics and operations. A complete schedule is posted on the district website, waynecountyschools.org.
The district introduced the summer flex schedule in 2006 to cut operation expenses over the summer months.
In addition to being closed on Fridays, offices will be closed on Monday, July 4.
Since the Wayne School of Engineering and Wayne Early/Middle College High school operate on the Wayne Community College calendar, they will maintain four-day workweeks through July 29.
