Thieves taking air conditioners

The recent spate of hot weather has apparently led some thieves to steal air-conditioning units across Wayne County. Several thefts of air-conditioning units have been reported to authorities in recent days.

* A $2,000 air conditioning unit was reported stolen from Orchestra Lane between June 4 and June 9. The home was listed as a vacant rental property of people of Elm City.

* A $3,000 air conditioning unit was reported stolen from Union Grove Church Road between June 6 and June 11.

* Parts and copper with a reported value of $8,000 were reported stolen from heat pumps at residence under construction the 100 block of Peartree Lane in Pikeville between June 7 and June 10.

* A $6,000 residential air conditioning unit was reported stolen from a home in 200 block of Rose Road in Pikeville. According to a report, a suspect entered the home's fenced back yard, dismantled the three ton unit and took the inner parts, leaving the frame. The home was a vacant property.

* A $4,000 air conditioning unit, weighing two tons, was reported stolen from a residence in the 600 block of Vail Road between June 5 and June 11. Also taken during the theft was nearly $1,000 of other goods including copper cords and tubing.

* A $3,500 air conditioning unit was reported stolen from an unoccupied home in the 1300 block of Old Grantham Road between June 2 and 10.

* A $3,500 air conditioning unit was reported stolen from an unoccupied home in he 600 block of Linen Lane between June 2 and June 10. According to the report, thieves removed the internals of the unit and left the unit's fan.
