Police catch suspect in hit-and-run

A Goldsboro man has been charged in the Memorial Day hit-and-run that sent a teenage girl and a 10-month-old child to the hospital.
Cedric Jones, 28, of North Kornegay Street, was arrested this week at the Wayne County Magistrate's Office and charged with felony hit-and-run personal injury and driving while license revoked.
Jones posted the $1,500 secured bond and was never booked into the Wayne County Jail, although he is currently on active probation for a May 2010 charge of intent to sell/deliver cocaine.
After being contacted by police, Jones turned himself into authorities five days after the accident.
The collision happened May 30 at the intersection of Ash and North Kornegay streets.
The accident involved a man, believed to be Jones, driving a car that failed to stop at a stop sign and struck the side of an SUV, which was carrying a 17-year-old girl and small child, causing it to overturn, police said.
According to a police report, a witness followed the suspect from the accident scene to an apartment complex in the 600 block of Holly Street, where the suspect parked the vehicle and fled on foot.
The suspect was driving a rental car from A&A Auto Rental on North George Street that was rented out by a woman who is a friend of Jones.
Police said Jones became more cooperative when video was produced of Jones dropping the woman off at her work in the car hours before the car was involved in the hit-and-run.
