Wayne County Public Schools will hold a free parent workshop on Thursday from 8:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the H.V. Brown Center on Poplar Street in Goldsboro.
The second annual Title I Spring Parent Workshop will again feature as keynote speaker Dr. Marcia Tate, author of the best-selling book, "Worksheets Don't Grow Dendrites: 20 Instructional Strategies That Engage the Brain."
Theme for this year's event is "The Power of Positive Thinking." Dr. Tate will discuss the limitations that thinking negatively has on the brain's potential. She will demonstrate strategies intended to reduce stress, increase laughter and lengthen life.
Workshops will be held throughout the morning on a variety of topics that will benefit parents in supporting their child in school.
"This parent workshop will be a fun and free educational opportunity for those who attend. It is our hope that Dr. Tate's strategies will help parents better approach situations, including those impacting their child's education, with a positive and confident attitude," said Tomekia Hutchins, WCPS Title I Parent Facilitator.
Parents planning to attend are asked to register in advance by calling 736-5073 or 705-6178.
