Shooting turns into murder

A Saturday shooting became a murder investigation when the victim, Edward Lee Brewington, 46, died Monday at Pitt Memorial Hospital.
Brewington, who was disabled, was found at his home on Mill Dam Lane about 10 p.m. Saturday by Wayne County Sheriff's Office deputies, suffering from several gunshot wounds.
Capt. Tom Effler of the Sheriff's Office said Brewing-ton was able to talk to investigators before he died and that the case is a "very active investigation."
Brewington was first taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, then transferred to Pitt.
Effler would not provide many details about the shooting.
Brewington's home was in a mobile home park just off Tommy's Road.
Several scenarios that could have led to Brewington's death are currently being examined by detectives, Effler said, and the possibility of a home invasion being involved has not been ruled out.
