The Goldsboro City Council will hear from a representative of the North Carolina League of Municipalities today on a bill pending in the Legislature that would rescind the annexation of the Salem Church Road area.

The discussion will take place during the board's work session, which begins at 5 p.m. in the council's room in the City Hall annex. The council's regular meeting will start at 7 p.m. in the council chambers at City Hall.

House Bill 196, introduced by Reps. Efton Sager and Stephen LaRoque, would undo the annexation of the area that was met by stiff opposition from residents for years before a court ruled it was legal. It has passed its first reading and has been referred to committee.

LaRoque, of Lenoir County, has filed a similar bill to de-annex an area taken in by the city of Kinston.

During the regular work session, the council also will hear from Col. Shawn Pederson, vice commander of the 4th Fighter Wing at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, on the Wings Over Wayne Air Show scheduled for April 16-17 and also will hear an update on the Arts Council of Wayne County by Director Sarah Merritt.

In other business, Julie Thompson of the Downtown Goldsboro Development Corp. will give a presentation on the North Carolina Main Street Best Public-Private Partnership in Downtown Revitalization Award.

Among the items on the council's consent agenda are scheduling a public hearings on the closing of a portion of Park Avenue, a non-contiguous annexation request by Landvest Development, a contiguous annexation request by a developer for a property on Glenda's Drive, and a rezoning request by Daryl Merritt for land on the west side of Highwoods Drive between U.S. 70 West and Perkins Mill Road.
