Mount Olive man shot in normally quiet part of town

MOUNT OLIVE -- A Cleveland Drive man was assaulted, robbed and then shot just feet away from his mobile home Tuesday night where a woman and young child were.
Manuel C. Calderon, no age listed, was shot in his right calf as he got out of his car after returning home from the store, police Maj. Brian Rhodes said.
Calderon's home is located near the back of the Cleveland Drive cul-de-sac just off of South Breazeale Avenue in what is a normally a quiet section of town, Rhodes said.
Calderon told police that two black males, whom he did not know, were sitting in a car on the street when he returned home around 7 p.m.
"He told the officers that when he pulled up that they pulled up behind him, displayed a gun and demanded his wallet," Rhodes said. "We are not sure if it was the butt of the gun or what, but they hit him in the head."
Calderon surrendered his wallet, but was still shot. He was still able to get to the door of his home where he was found by police. He was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital by Wayne County EMS.
Rhodes said no bullet casings were found at the scene and that police did not yet know what kind of weapon had been used.
The two men left in a silvered color vehicle, possibly a Nissan, Rhodes said.
Police received the call about the shooting around 7:10 p.m. from Elizabeth Figuroa, no age listed, whose address is the same as Calderon.
When police arrived they found that the door of Calderon's car was still opened and followed a trail of blood from the front of the car to the house door where they discovered Calderon.
Ms. Figuroa told police she was in the home when she heard the cars pull up to the house followed shortly thereafter by a gunshot.
She said she heard someone knocking at the door and when she got to the door found that it was Calderon.
Cpl. David Casey and Patrolman Johnny Joe Gonzales were the first officers 0n the scene. They called Sgt. C.J. Weaver who interviewed Ms. Figuroa.
