Wayne Reads: Women in Afghanistan talk tonight

Dr. Miriam Cooke, a professor of Asian and African languages and literature at Duke University, will address the topic of war and its impact on women in the Middle East on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at the Arts Council of Wayne county.
Her presentation is part of the annual Wayne County Reads initiative that this year is focusing on books on Afghanistan and its people by author Greg Mortenson.
It is free and open to the public.
Dr. Cooke has just returned from Doha, Qatar, where she was a scholar in residence at the Museum of Islamic Art for a semester.
She is the author of "Women and the War Story" (University of California Press, 1997) and a number of other books and articles about war and gender in Arabic literature and film and about Islamic feminism.
