Lisa Tart, principal at Grantham School, has been named one of eight North Carolina Regional Principals of the Year.
Part of the Wachovia Principal of the Year program, she competed against other principals in the southeast region for the honor. She will now compete against other regional recipients for the state title, to be named in the spring.
An educator since 1994, Mrs. Tart came to Wayne County Public Schools in 1996 as an English/history teacher at Rosewood Middle School. In 2000 she was named assistant principal at the school and became its principal in 2002.
She transferred to Grantham School in 2006.
A graduate of East Carolina University, she received both a bachelor's degree and master's degree in middle grades education and a master's degree in school administration.
"Mrs. Tart is an outstanding principal and the ideal representative of Wayne County Public Schools and the southeast region," said Dr. Steve Taylor, superintendent. "Mrs. Tart is a hard -working principal who has garnered the respect of her peers and colleagues.
"Her character, core educational beliefs and commitment to help students become successful resulted in her rising to the top of the Principal of the Year southeast regional competition. We wish her the very best in the next stage of the competition."
This is the 28th year Wachovia Bank has sponsored the financial awards. Regional principals of the year receive $1,000 for their school and $1,000 for personal use. The state recipient will receive $3,000 for the school and $3,000 for personal use.
