A Mount Olive area man has been charged by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office with second-degree rape involving a minor.
Robert Earl Aponick, 54, of 3255 Emmaus Church Road, was arrested Monday by deputies and placed under $200,000 secured bond in the Wayne County Jail.
The charge involves an incident reported to the Sheriff's Office in late October by the victim's family. The victim, a 13-year-old girl, and her family were known by the suspect.
The alleged incident is believed to have occurred at the victim's home.
Aponick's arrest follows a nearly two-month investigation that included forensic interviews.
Detectives said the investigation is still continuing and additional charges are possible.
