Patrolman Mark Santifort stops traffic during a checkpoint on North Berkeley Boulevard in Goldsboro. Nearly 40 local law enforcement agents, mostly from Goldsboro Police Department, stopped suspected drunk drivers and other people, looking for individuals who were in violation of the law.
Booze It, Lose It
Late Friday night and early Saturday morning, 38 law enforcement officers from Goldsboro Police Department A Shift, B Shift and D Shift, Wayne County Sheriff's Department, N.C. State Highway Patrol and Pikeville Police Department conducted a joint "Booze It Lose It" checkpoint at 2394 U.S. 13 North (Berkeley Boulevard), the 4000 block of Central Heights Road and the 2000 block of Tommy's Road. Because of this combined effort more than 400 violations were cited. This included four being charged with DWI, eight being charged with driving while license was revoked, one drug violation, one charge of seatbelt violation and 29 other motor vehicle and criminal violations.
Major Mike West, Goldsboro Police Department said that innocent people are often the victims of accidents resulting from impaired drivers.
"Whenever we can get impaired drivers off the road, it is good for the public," West said.
West added that the high number of law enforcement officials at the checkpoints allowed for minimum traffic disruption and increased saftey for the officers.
Purse snatching
Phyllis Williams of Adler Lane reported to Goldsboro police a common-law robbery that occurred while she was on South Andrews Avenue Friday evening. She said she was attacked by an unknown black man as she exited her vehicle, when he struck her shoulder and snatched her purse. The purse contained $50 cash, miscellaneous credit cards and personal items.
Election sign stolen
On the 1300 block of North Drive, resident Glenda Davis an election sign in her yard was torn and plants damaged by unknown subjects she had seen in the area earlier.
Business window shot
At Premiere Carpets Warehouse on South George Street, $600 worth of damage was done to a window that was shot out sometime between Oct. 28-29.
Walmart break-in
*Crystal Baker of the Spence Avenue Walmart told police an unknown subject cut through a lock in a caged area in the rear of the store and took 40 assorted vehicle batteries, valued at $1,200.
