A single-car accident on U.S. 70, about two miles west of Goldsboro, resulted in the death of the woman who was driving, state Highway Patrol investigators said Tuesday.
Susie Garner Stanley, 60, was ejected from her car during the accident early in the afternoon.
While traveling west, Mrs. Stanley's Honda Civic struck a road sign before overturning in a nearby ditch.
She was not wearing a seat belt, according to patrol records.
The victim's health condition might have been a factor in the crash, First Sgt. Jerry Burton said.
"According to witnesses, she began moving from lane to lane and lost control of the vehicle before striking the road sign," Burton said.
The hospital confirmed Mrs. Stanley was diabetic, the sergeant added.
"Her medical condition may have played a role in her losing control of the vehicle," Burton said.
The investigation is continuing.
