Those planning to go to United Way's Taste of Wayne Thursday will have to rein in their taste buds just a little longer.
The annual fundraiser has been postponed until Monday due to a predicted chance of rain.
"There's an 80-percent chance of rain Thursday, which is the day the Taste of Wayne was supposed to be held," said Whitney Jansta, United Way community engagement manager. "Key members of the Taste committee met Tuesday morning and decided to change the date. We called all the restaurants and vendors and let them know, too."
Ms. Jansta said United Way officials didn't feel people would enjoy the event in the rain. Plus there was also an issue of safety with vendors using electrical cords in the rain.
"We want everyone to have a good time," she said. "People will enjoy it a lot more on a sunny day rather than on a rainy day."
Because the date has been changed, "Elvis" will not be able to perform. United Way is in the process of getting other entertainment.
The event will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Wayne Community College.
Tickets are still available at $15 for adults and children 7 and older. They can be purchased from United Way, Wayne County Chamber of Commerce, Mount Olive Chamber of Commerce, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base Outdoor Recreation, Berry Towne Crafts at O'Berry Center and Zaxby's. They may also be purchased online at www.unitedwayne.org.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Taste of Wayne County and the 85th birthday of United Way of Wayne County.
