MOUNT OLIVE -- A Mount Olive man was reported missing Monday evening and was found several hours later inside a church at Rones Chapel in northern Duplin County.

Craig Jackson, who has had health problems in recent years, was reported missing by his family about 8:45 p.m., Mount Olive Police Chief Ralph Schroeder said.

Jackson was driving a golf cart when last seen about 6 p.m. He lives on Valley Drive in southern Mount Olive.

Schroeder said the Mount Olive Fire Department, the Sheriff's Offices from Wayne and Duplin counties and the Wayne dispatch center were instrumental in putting together the search. The Wayne County Sheriff's helicopter also was called out to help.

A statewide Silver Alert was issued, along with a countywide Red Alert.

Schroeder said Jackson was traced by his cell phone to Rones Chapel, where his golf cart was located outside the church. Jackson was found lying on a pew inside the church about 10:45 p.m.

Schroeder said Jackson was conscious and talking at the time he was found. He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, but officers could not say early today which one.

Officials at neither Wayne Memorial nor Duplin General Hospital were able to confirm whether Jackson was or had been a patient there.

Schroeder said he had not know how Jackson got to Rones Chapel nor why he headed in that direction.
