The Goldsboro Fire Department responded to 206 fires and/or service calls last month.

Fire personnel also completed over 1,570 hours of individual training in July and more than 20 training classes.

On July 31 the department organized and accomplished a "live burn" training event at a structure on Fremont Street that was scheduled to be demolished. Firefighters from Goldsboro, Rosewood and Elroy Volunteer fire departments participated in the exercise that allowed them to train and experience a fire in a relatively safe setting.

Firefighters responded to five fires in July: a structure fire July 1 on South Slocum Street; a mobile home fire July 6 on North William Street; a vehicle crash July 16 on Thoroughfare Road; a structure fire July 20 on Quail Drive; an apartment fire July 22 on West Oak.

Station 2 held two car safety check days on July 7 and 21. Free safety seat checks will continue at Station 2 on Royall Avenue every first and third Wednesday of the month from 3-6 p.m.

The two new fire pumpers, which replaced engines 3 and 4, arrived on July 31. The Fire Apparatus Committee traveled to the Ferrara Fire Apparatus factory in Louisiana during the last week of July to inspect the pumpers before driving them back to Goldsboro. This month the new pumpers will be outfitted with gear and marked with decals.
