The Foundation of Wayne Community College will present a five-week symposium next month on Wayne County's role in the Civil War.
Local experts will lecture on a variety of topics, including antebellum Wayne, the county's men who served in the Confederate army, Foster's Raid and the Battle of Goldsboro Bridge and the federal occupation of Wayne at the war's end.
The moderator will be Dr. Roy Heidicker, the historian of the 4th Fighter Wing at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.
On the final evening of the symposium, participants will discuss the role the war continues to play in Wayne County.
The lectures will be about an hour in length and will be held on successive Thursdays, starting Sept. 9 and ending Oct. 7.
The lectures will be held at 7 p.m. in room 101 of the Walnut Building.
There is no charge and the public is invited.
