Goldsboro police have released the name of a George Street man accused of the the rape of a Tanglewood Trail woman on July 4.

Jasper Devon Godwin, 40, is being sought on counts of first-degree burglary and first-degree rape, Sgt. Chad Calloway said.

A woman reported being raped at her Tanglewood Trail home around 8:30 p.m. by a man she did not know.

Calloway said he could not release whether police now had physical evidence in the case.

"We won't get much into that, right this second, but I will say that we definitely need to locate this gentleman. He's a registered sex offender," Calloway said.

Godwin last updated his registry as a sex offender in October 2009. He was convicted in August 1993 in Wayne County of second-degree rape according to the North Carolina Department of Justice Offenders Registry.

Godwin is known to frequent Hickory Hill Trailer Court off of Dollard Town Road, Calloway said.

He is described as a black male with brown eyes, about 180 pounds with tattoos on his right arm.
