FAISON -- A Mount Olive woman was killed Monday in a single vehicle accident outside of Faison.
Ashley Cartwright, 19, was driving on N.C. 403 at approximately 1 p.m. Monday when the accident happened, investigators said.
The car Miss Cartwright was driving ran off of the road to the right, according to Duplin County Highway Patrol Trooper John Edwards, who responded to the scene. The vehicle struck a ditch and then struck two trees.
Excessive speed is not believed to be a factor in the crash. The driver apparently did not attempt to steer back toward the road, but the investigation is ongoing, Edwards said.
Miss Cartwright was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment, where she was pronounced dead.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident, Edwards said.
Arrangements for the funeral are pending.
