BEAULAVILLE -- A child was struck by a car and killed Saturday on Highway 41 in Beaulaville, according to the state Highway Patrol reports.

Malachi Josiah Davis, 8, ran into the road in front of his home at 1459 South N.C. Highway 41 Saturday at about 10:15 a.m. He was struck by a vehicle driven by Rayburn Gerald Holmes of Durwood Evans Road in Beaulaville.

He was transported to a hospital in Pender County for treatment, then airlifted to New Hanover Regional Hospital in Wilmington, where he died of his injuries.

The wreck is believed to be an accident, but the final report on the incident has not yet been filed.

"There have not been any charges filed, and speaking with the patrol office in Kenansville, there will not be any charges filed in this case," Highway Patrol public information officer Sgt. Jeff Gordon said.

Gordon said he did not have details on why the child ran into the road.

The accident occurred near the intersection of N.C. Highway 41 and N.C. Highway 111.
