Spot Rouse, of Seven Springs, uses a team of Percheron working horses to break up the ground during the Work Horse and Mule Plow Day held on his farm just west of Seven Springs on N.C. 55. The event is sponsored by the North Carolina Work Horse and Mule Association. Saturday's event brought in teams from across North Carolina, as well as South Carolina and Virginia. The event demonstrated the life of a farmer from days past. Most of the farmers used a one-wing breaking plow with wheels and seat, while other farmers would use a one-wing breaking plow that was pulled by either one or two horses, or a team of mules, that were guided by hand as they walked. Those attending were also treated to an old-fashion style barbecue dinner in Rouse's old-style saloon and general store.
