Another auto parts store is making plans to come to Goldsboro.

O'Reilly Auto Parts will take the place of the former Carter Christian Academy located at 2400 E. Ash St. The city approved the demolition permit for the site on June 7 and the bulldozing wrapped up this week.

Goldsboro City Council approved construction plans on March 1, said Jennifer Collins, Goldsboro senior planer. The new building will be a one-story, 7,735-square-foot building with 45 parking spaces.

The Goldsboro location is one of 150 new stores the company plans to open this year.

O'Reilly Automotive, Inc. is based out of Springfield, Mo. and opened its first store there in November 1957.

In July 2008, O'Reilly purchased CSK Auto Corp., based out of Phoenix, adding 1,342 stores under the brand names of Checker Auto Parts, Schuck's Auto Supply, Kragen Auto Parts and Murray's Discount Auto Supply. The joining of these two companies expanded O'Reilly into several new states, including Alaska and Hawaii, and brought the total number of states with O'Reilly/CSK locations to 38, with a total of 3,421 stores, thus making it the third largest auto parts distributor in the United States.

Total sales for core O'Reilly stores were $4.85 billion for 2009. In 2009, the company still had 3,421 stores in 38 states.

The company is contracted with Esterly, Schneider and Associates Inc. out of Spingfield, Mo., to do the architecture and planning, and have also hired Tom Lundberg, a developer also out of Missouri.

It is unknown how many employees the new business will hire or its target opening date.

A spokesperson for the company did not return repeated calls for comment.
