Local private schools name top graduates

Valedictorians and salutatorians from private high schools have been announced. Four area high schools will hold commencement ceremonies over the next week, graduating 84 students.
Faith Christian Academy kicks off the graduation season, with its ceremony Friday at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary of Faith Free Will Baptist Church.
Pastor Dann Patrick will give the commencement challenge to the 20 graduates.
Abby Millard is the class valedictorian, while Chris Powell is salutatorian. Both plan to attend Campbell University. She will major in English, while he will enter the pre-pharmacy program.
Wayne Early/Middle College High School will hold its exercises on May 27 at 7 p.m. in Moffatt Auditorium at Wayne Community College. This year's class has 16 members, six of whom also recently graduated with two-year degrees from WCC.
There is no valedictorian of salutatorian.
Wayne Country Day School has 19 seniors slated to graduate on Friday, May 28. Baccalaureate is scheduled for May 27 at 5:30 p.m. at Saint Joseph's United Methodist Church in Pikeville, with graduation the following day at 11 a.m.
Valedictorian Blake Marchese will address his classmates at the graduation, along with Ed Clark, chair of the history department. The Carolina Brass will also play during the ceremony.
Marchese will attend Duke University, but has not declared a major.
Salutatorians are Cameron Ford and Georgia Tanner. Both will be students at Wake Forest University. Ford is undecided on a major, while Ms. Tanner is interested in pre-law.
On Saturday, May 29, Wayne Christian School will hold its graduation at 10 a.m. in the school gymnasium, with 29 diploma candidates.
Pastor Keith Burkhart, pastor of Adamsville Baptist Church, has been invited to speak.
Co-valedictorians this year are Katherine Laramee and Gina Wall. Luke Howell is salutatorian.
Ms. Laramee will be attending Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn., studying audio engineering technology. Ms. Wall plans to go to UNC-Chapel Hill and study biology.
Howell has been accepted to Bryan College in Dayton, Tenn. and plans to study biology.
