Goldsboro Postal Service carrier Derrick Lofton collects canned goods on his route Saturday. Mail carriers across the nation held their annual food drive for the needy on Saturday. In Wayne County, mail carriers collected 14,470 pounds of food to be distributed to families in need. The campaign is the largest single-day food collection effort in the United States. Officials with the National Association of Letter Carriers said they hoped to exceed the 73.4 million pounds collected last year. That would push the total collected over the 18-year campaign to more than a billion pounds of food.
