Wayne School of Engineering and Wayne County Environmental Health are conducting their annual mosquito survey project to help reduce the county's mosquito population. Over the next two weeks, dozens of WSE students will go door to door conducting a mosquito harborage survey in the following neighborhoods: The Reach, Cherry Grove, and portions of Marsh Landing. Students will also give out pamphlets and other educational information about how homeowners can help reduce the mosquito population.

"The mosquito harborage survey project allows students the opportunity to apply relevant and real world information in the areas of math, science, and communication," said Gary Hales, WSE principal.

This is the third year Wayne School of Engineering has worked with the Environmental Health division in the project. To prepare, participating students have been studying mosquitoes, as well as different types of surveys and how to conduct them. Students began the project this week and will continue on Monday, April 27. Once completed, students will have the opportunity to study local mosquitoes captured in traps set by the Environmental Health division.
