Mario's Top Ranked Barber Shop, 314 Randolph St., is offering experience when it comes to fades, braids and hair cuts.

Mario Kornegay, owner, said the shop has something for everyone.

"The ladies do shampoos, twists, dreads, micro braids, corn rows, and I do fades, regular cuts and designs," he said. "It's basically like the whole family can come in here. Plus we have some of the best prices in town."

A regular cut is about $10 and designs start at $3. But Kornegay offers a dollar off discount for military and seniors age 55 and older. All children's haircuts are $7.

Kornegay is a graduate of Harris Barber College in Raleigh and worked for seven years at another barber shop before opening his own business.

"I felt like it was time," he said. "It was my dream, I always pictured myself as a business owner."

Kornegay said his specialty is "edge-ups and razor lines."

"I love using that razor. It's sharp and keeps everything looking real clean," he said.

Loyal customer Sean Griffin, 22, said Top Ranked is the only place he'll go.

"I've come here since it opened up. I've been through three or four barbers before I got to him. I'm not from here, so I was trying to find a barber I was comfortable with."

As a Goldsboro native, Kornegay said it was a perfect place for him to open his business.

"Goldsboro is growing. I think it has a bunch of potential," he said. "This is a good spot for a business because Ash Street is the main strip in Goldsboro."

The barber shop also has hair products, brushes and shampoos available for purchase.

Mario's Top Ranked Barber Shop is open Tuesday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The shop is open Mondays for appointments only and is closed on Sunday. To contact the barber shop call 344-9600.
