True bills of indictment alleging embezzlement and larceny were returned Dec. 15 by the Lenoir County Grand Jury against two former town of LaGrange employees.

Officials in the Lenoir County Clerk of Courts office Wednesday morning said that six bills were returned against former police detective Elwood Shawn Brock and 40 counts against Antoinette Maxwell Williams.

Brock faces two felony counts of embezzlement by a public officer, two felony counts of obtaining property by false pretense and two misdemeanor counts of willful failure to discharge his duties.

He was placed under a $1,500 unsecured bond. He is scheduled to appear in Lenoir County Superior Court on Jan. 5.

Ms. Williams faces 20 felony counts of embezzlement and 20 felony counts of larceny by an employee.

Court officials said that Ms. Williams had not been served as of presstime Wednesday.

Ms. Williams, who had worked as billing clerk for the town for 21 years, was fired in Nov., 2007

Brock, who had been with the police department about 5 years, was suspended in Nov. 2007 pending disciplinary action, said LaGrange Town Manger John Craft. Brock resigned that same month.

Craft said he could not comment further because of personnel laws.
