A Goldsboro man has been charged by Goldsboro police with kidnapping and sexual assault.

Shonshi Chavez, 21, was charged after his alleged female victim said Monday that she had been kidnapped and assaulted by Chavez. Chavez was jailed in the Wayne County Detention Center under a $1 million bond.

The alleged incident happened in Room 107 of the old Quality Inn and Suites at 708 Corporate Drive, according to reports.

Chavez was arrested following an investigation by police and charged with two counts of first-degree sexual assault and second-degree kidnapping (both felonies), assault on a female and simple possession of marijuana.

Sgt. Chad Calloway of the department's investigation unit said the incident happened between 2 and 4 a.m. Monday. The woman was taken for medical treatment, he said.

Chavez was arrested without incident at a police checkpoint on Solcumb Street prior to noon. The checkpoint had been set up specifically to try and apprehend Chavez, Calloway said.

Calloway said he could not comment on whether the two had known each other prior to the alleged assault and kidnapping. He added that since it was early in the investigation that he could not comment further.
