A new non-profit organization is trying to fill in the gaps to make sure that those who are in need can find the items they need to make it through the tough times.

The New Hope Resale Shop at 750 E. New Hope Road, helps people in need by providing them with clothes, furniture and other supplies, based on what the store has in stock.

"We don't give out money, but we help them with home furnishings and clothes. We're (getting referrals) through the schools and social workers; we're working through Red Cross and WAGES," said Christy Modica, one of the store's directors, along with Chris Douglas. "We're basically like a fill-in. We help people that other organizations can't."

Douglas said they decided to open the store as a way to help people in need.

"There's some voids in the system in terms of communication between the general public and the agencies providing services," Douglas said. "There's agencies out there that aren't very well-known so we're kind of getting into the information business and directing people to other agencies as well. We realized there's a real need just for information about who helps with what."

In addition to giving away items to people in need, the store will also have items on sale for everyone else. While some of the clothes are new from overstocked department stores, the majority are used and have been donated. The store also has used toys, appliances, books, decorations and furniture.

Ms. Modica said the store is always accepting donations and is most in need of beds and children's clothing.

"We'd like people to know that we're here. We're willing to help them or anyone they know that is in some kind of personal crisis. We're willing to help for free. We'd also like the community to know we'd appreciate their donations," Douglas said.

"Everybody wants to help. They may not have a ton of money to hand over but everyone has clothes they don't wear and stuff they can get rid of," Ms. Modica said.

The New Hope Resale Shop is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. It is closed Mondays.
