An employability skills classes featuring resume writing and Career Readiness Certification test prep will begin this week at Wayne Community College.

The target audience is dislocated workers, but anyone may attend.

The day class will run from 2 to 4:30 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays and will be taught by Lorie Waller. The class will begin today and end on Dec. 10.

The evening class will run from 6 to 9 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays and will be taught by Christy Culbreth, beginning on Nov. 9. It will end on Dec. 10.

The class is an open-entry, open-exit lab format, meaning that students don't have to be at every class and they can start and stop at any point in the duration of the class.

The goal of the class is to help individuals increase their marketability in these tough economic times, WCC officials said.

Individuals may prepare for the WorkKeys assessments for CRC and gain test-taking skills prior to testing. The CRC program is an assessment that shows prospective employers applicants possess skills they require.

Students also may receive assistance in resume writing, portfolio building and various other job seeking skills as needed on an individual basis.

The class is structured so that students work at their own pace with instructor assistance as needed. The class will meet in WLC 141 and there is no charge to the students.
