Aycock Birthplace marks anniversary

A celebration marking the 150th anniversary of former Gov. Charles B. Aycock's birthday and the 50th anniversary of the opening of his historic birthplace in Fremont will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
The highlight of the event will be the grand reopening of Aycock's boyhood home.
The event also will feature a reunion for Aycock family members, bluegrass music by Sapony Creek, living history demonstrations, a discussion of the "Legacy of Segregation Education," George Holding, U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina, an Aycock impersonator and birthday cake.
Organizers hope for 200 to 300 people to attend.
