The Wayne County Veterans and Patriots Coalition will hold its Veterans Day Parade and ceremonies on Wednesday, Nov. 11, beginning at 11 a.m. in downtown Goldsboro.

The coalition is seeking entries in the parade with a military or patriotic theme from veterans and military organizations, schools, marching bands, churches, Boy and Girl Scout units, fire, rescue and law enforcement organizations, businesses and industries, commercial floats and others.

Bill Graham, commander of the Veterans and Coalition, said there were 68 units in last year's parade and that the group would like to exceed that number this year.

"It is especially important to honor our veterans and military personnel at a time of escalating violence and American casualties in Afghanistan and elsewhere," Graham said.

Parade entries or applications can be obtained at the Wayne County Veterans Office in the old Health Department building at 209 S. William St., or online at www.waynegov.org and clicking on the Veterans Office page.

The parade lineup will begin at 9:30 a.m. on South Center Street in front of the former CP&L building.

The parade will begin at 11 a.m., passing the reviewing stand at the corner of Center and Walnut streets. Graham said there will be no large formal ceremony this year, but that they Seymour Johnson Air Force Base Color Guard will stop in front of the reviewing stand, at which time Miss Holly Jones will sing the national anthem.

Graham will serve as master of ceremonies and state Rep. Efton Sager will serve as grand marshal of the parade.
