A Dudley man has been charged in connection with a Fremont armed robbery.

Daniel Talib Smith, 18, 100 block of Running Deer Circle, was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, according to Fremont Police Chief R.K. Rawlings.

Robert Sealey, 19, was walking to the store on South Blank Street around 8 p.m. Saturday when two people in a white Nissan Sentra pulled up and asked him for directions, according to the report.

As Sealey was giving directions, one of the men pulled out a silver handgun and demanded Sealey give him all his money.

Sealey only had $5 in quarters, which he turned over. The suspect then patted him down and took his lighter.

"Even though it's five dollars, we can't have that in Fremont. It's still a robbery," Rawlings said. "We can't have people coming to Fremont and do a violent act. We can't have people not being able to walk to the store. If you take something from somebody, you're going to have to pay for it. This isn't the Wild West."

Police said Sealey was able to get a license plate number and description of the car, which was very helpful.

"I thought that was fantastic on his part," Rawlings said. "Especially after having a gun in his face."

Fremont police Officer Terrence McNeill and Sgt. Teresa Quinn tracked the car back to Smith's mother who told police he had used it that day. Another witness also identified Smith in Fremont Saturday with a silver handgun in his waistband.

Rawlings said the department has another person of interest they may charge for the robbery. He is also from Dudley.

"Don't bring that to Fremont," Rawlings said. "We don't play that."
