Count to recognize local businesses, industry

Wayne County commissioners adopted a resolution proclaiming Oct. 26-29 as Industry Celebration Week in the county.
The Wayne County Development Alliance Inc. hosts the industry celebration each year to thank the more than 50 major manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers and machine shops in the county.
In addition to the representatives from local businesses and industries, other guests will include officials from the N.C. Department of Commerce, utility companies, local and state elected officials, and community leaders.
A golf tournament will kick off the event on Oct. 26 at the Goldsboro Municipal Golf Course. It will be followed by a reception where prizes for the best golf teams will be awarded.
Civic, community and business leaders will have the opportunity to tour Seymour Johnson Air Force Base Wednesday. The tour includes a briefing on current and future construction projects that impact Wayne County, a flight line tour, and a unique opportunity to see the F-15E Strike Eagle and its munitions.
"Seymour Johnson Air Force base has a significant economic impact on Wayne County," said Mike Haney, Development Alliance vice president/existing industry specialist. "Being able to see firsthand the ins and outs of military operations and a day in the life of a military member will be a truly unique and memorable experience."
The celebration will culminate with a reception, dinner and awards ceremony Thursday at Walnut Creek Country Club. The year's top industry will be named at the reception, as voted on by past recipients.
"We look forward to this event every year, but this year's appreciation takes on a special meaning in light of the economic turbulence of the past year," said Joanna Helms, Alliance president. "The Development Alliance understands the importance of local industry and its impact on overall economic stability. We are truly grateful for the strong economic base that exists here in Wayne County."
