The ghosts, goblins and other creatures that will haunt Mount Olive, Seven Springs, Calypso and Faison on Halloween will be following a similar schedule.

The hours for trick-or-treating will begin at 6 p.m. and residents who plan to pass out the treats are asked to leave their porch lights on in Mount Olive, Calypso and Faison.

The town of Seven Springs will hold its annual Halloween in the park.

The age range for the trick-or-treaters in Mount Olive is newborn to age 14.

In Mount Olive, the Jaycees will be giving away glow sticks on a first-come, first-served basis at the corner of Main and Wooten streets. Police also will give out candy at the police station.

"Extra officers will be out patrolling," Mount Olive Chief of Police Ralph Schroeder said.

There have been "no real problems" in town in recent years, Schroeder said.

"We get somebody driving too fast," he said. "We ask the drivers to drive slowly and carefully."

Also, parents need to walk with their children, he said. Adult chaperones are requested not to wear masks if they do dress up in costume, Schroeder said.

Parents are reminded to dress their children in costumes and bags that include reflective materials.

Police strongly encourage drivers to park in one of the parking lots or fields that are normally used for parking as opposed to riding slowly with their four-way flashers turned on.
