Don't believe everything you hear.

That's the message Busco Beach officials are trying to stress to their customers and citizens of Wayne County.

"We are not for sale. We are not looking to sell," said Nanette Lang, manager.

She said the recent rumors about the camp being sold or shutting down have gotten back to them. They have posted a message on their Web site -- "For the rumors that are flying around ... Busco is not closed nor has it been sold!" highlighted in bright yellow.

Busco Beach is a recreational riding facility geared toward ATVs. It has a campground with more than 1,800 acres of riding, full hook-up camping, and large ponds for swimming. The business also has a concession stand, general store and on-site ATV repair.

Ms. Lang said people have shown interest in the park, but that has been the extent of it.

"People have occasionally come and want to buy our park," she said. "But it's like any other business, when they see something successful, they want to be a part of it."

She said the latest rumor officials have heard circulating is that Progress Energy was interested in the park. Ms. Lang said the company is not buying the park and hasn't even made any kind of offer.

"When one person hears something they fly with it," she said. "Most people have too much time on their hands. We're here, and we'll be here as long as people will come."

She added that although Busco Beach has felt the effects of the economy, like most other businesses, it has not changed its hours of operation, which is 24 hours a day seven days a week, or the services offered.

"We are open and going strong," Ms. Lang said.

A search of the Wayne County Register of Deeds real estate transactions also shows no transfers involving Busco Beach.
