Davis urges cooperation at Hispanic Center dinner

The Hispanic Community Development Center's fifth annual Appreciation Banquet
State Sen. Don Davis, D-Greene, was the guest speaker and encouraged those in attendance to work towards a common goal.
"It's important for the community to continue to come together on all fronts and to continue to look at ways to reach across the community and pull our resources together for a strong Wayne County," he said.
Davis also commended the Hispanic Community Development Center for its role in the community and the services it offers.
"Obviously these have been very tough times. For a lot of residents, economically tough decisions have had to be made that impacted many residents across the board. But in the midst of all of this, there are still wonderful opportunities that are before us," he said. "If you look at the activities the center has been involved in these are real opportunities to help make our community stronger."
He also encouraged the group to keep an open mind about current issues including health care and immigration reform.
"I think if you really dig into these issues, a lot of times we may agree on the end result. We must not allow the details, and the disagreement on the details, to keep us from where we need to go," he said.
To close out the evening, plaques and certificates were presented to businesses and individuals.
