A 19-year-old Goldsboro man was found dying near a West Seymour Drive home by police on Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.
Jamie Worthington of Myers Avenue was found suffering from several gunshot wounds outside of a home at 209 W. Seymour Drive about 12:35 p.m.
He was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Goldsboro officers were first called to the scene after an emergency call reporting shots fired in the 200 block of Seymour Drive, authorities said.
Police would not say how many times Worthington was shot, and did not immediately reveal a possible motive for the shooting.
Sgt. Chad Calloway said investigators believe Worth-ington knew his attacker.
"We also know that there's going to be several witnesses, and it would be a great help to us, obviously, if they would come forward," Calloway said.
Asked if narcotics or gang activity was involved with the incident, the police sergeant said he did not believe it was.
Investigator Bryant Can-ady is the lead investigator in the case.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 735-2255.
