Price Rite Cleaners at 2311 E. Ash St., opened in The Cloth Barn shopping center to some fanfare, including a ribbon-cutting attended by Mayor Al King.

Matthew Hill, owner-operator, said so far he's happy with the response the business has received.

"Business has been stable. I've had repeat customers and I've been pleased with that, but more business is always welcome," Hill said.

Hill seems to already thrive at the customer relations side of the industry -- remembering customers names and phone numbers off the top of his head. The first-time business owner said he feels confident opening the cleaners was a good business decision.

"In my research, I felt that it was a good, solid business to get into," he said. "It fulfilled one of the three needs and it provides a service to the community. People always need something to eat, shelter and clean clothes."

He said his prices are better than his competitors. To dry clean a blouse, men's shirt, pants or a suit jacket at Price Rite Cleaners it costs $2.80. Other area cleaners charge as much as $5, he said. Additionally, to dry clean a formal dress at Price Rite is $5.60, while it runs $10 or more at most other cleaners.

"Our prices are a little better than our competitors and we pride ourselves in dealing with our customers and make sure we please them," Hill said. "I feel like in a business, especially a service, you have to stand behind your work."

In addition to everyday clothes, Price Rite also dry cleans large items such as jumpsuits, coats, choral robes and dresses; and household items including comforters, down comforters, bed spreads, drapes and duvet covers. It also launders and starches select items.

The store offers a free "re-do" if a customer is not happy with the outcome of the cleaning and money back if the customer is not happy with the outcome of the re-do.

Store hours are Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The store offers next day service and is closed Sundays.
