A memorial has been planned for the 336th Fighter Squadron officers lost in Afghanistan early Saturday morning when their F-15E Strike Eagle crashed in the country's Ghazni Province.

Capt. Mark R. McDowell and Capt. Thomas J. Gramith will be remembered by friends and comrades at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base's Heritage Park.

The event, scheduled for Tuesday at 9 a.m. will be open to anyone with access to the base, 4th Fighter Wing officials said -- airmen, their families, members of the military affairs community and other Department of Defense card holders.

McDowell and Gramith were flying a close-air-support mission when their Strike Eagle went down.

Two days later, 4th Fighter Wing Commander Col. Mark Kelly oversaw the dignified transfer of their remains at Dover Air Force Base, Del.
