The fourth annual "Geeks and Gamers" will be held next month at the Wayne County Public Library.

The three days of games and books will be held Friday, Aug. 14 from 5-9 p.m.; Saturday, Aug. 15 from 12-5 p.m.; and Sunday, Aug. 16 from 12-5 p.m.

The event is Wayne County Public Library's summer celebration of video games, comics, science fiction and fantasy literature, and traditional board games as a way to enhance literacy and strengthen social skills.

This year, gamers ages 13-18 have the chance to compete for prizes in tournaments for both Street Fighter IV and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Rock Band 2 will also be open for free play, as well as the classic Super Smash Bros. Melee.

In addition, this year's "Geeks and Gamers" serves as the kickoff to the library's "Play Me a Story" campaign, a year-long drive to promote games as a platform for story telling and narrative exploration

The campaign will be funded by the Libraries, Literacy, and Gaming Grant awarded to Wayne County Public Library by the American Library Association and Verizon Foundation.

Tournament participants are required to register by 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15 and are allowed to participate in both tournaments. Tournament gamers must be no younger than 13 and no older than 18, but all other activities are open to all ages.

All games for this event are rated E (appropriate for all ages) or T (appropriate for ages 13 and up) by the Electronics Software Ratings Board.

For more information, and to register for tournament play, call the Wayne County Public Library at 735-1824.
