Bell of Bell Homes now branching into property repair work

The slow economy might be a hindrance for some, but John T. Bell took the opportunity to start another company.
Bell, owner of Bell Homes, is branching out into property maintenance as managing member of the new company Absolute Property Maintenance.
"In managing over 400 apartments and houses, we realized there was a need for somebody to do professional maintenance on the properties and buildings," he said. "Our new home construction is not very active right now, so it gave us a chance to get this going. This is something we've been looking at for years, we just picked the right time now."
Bell added that rather than buying new homes, people have become more interested in fixing up their current property.
The company provides maintenance in the form of replacement windows, storm windows, new roofs, storage buildings, gutter cleaning, pressure washing, rotted wood and vinyl siding, among other things.
Bell said the company will do maintenance for anyone needing the work done.
"Whether they're selling a home and need it repaired, whether they're selling rental property or are another real estate firm, we'll work with them," Bell said. "The main thing that we offer is credibility. We price work, we give them a clear detailed proposal of what we intend to do for them that they can look at and it's done in a professional way rather than a bill handed to you on a piece of scrap paper."
Richard Reed, general contractor and construction manager of the company, said they go over and above what a traditional maintenance person might.
"Most of the other maintenance companies are just kind of a handyman type deal," he said. "We are fully licensed and insured. We are also licensed general contractors. We are pretty much licensed to the fullest that any handyman company would be."
