Goldsboro police are investigating an alleged sexual assault that took place early Monday morning in an apartment at a Spence Avenue complex.
A 20-year-old woman who lives with roommates in the apartment complex reported the sexual assault, according to police and others familiar with the case.
The woman reportedly knew her alleged attacker, described as an "acquaintance," according to a Golds-boro police news release.
Police have not released the police report or the name of the man who is the focus of the investigation. The Goldsboro News-Argus generally does not print the names of alleged sexual assault victims.
Police Sgt. Chad Calloway said two police investigators were actively working the case, but were not yet sure if charges would be filed.
"There's not been an arrest made as we speak, so we're still doing out interviews and seeing how things are going to turn out," Calloway said early Tuesday morning.
Goldsboro police were first called to the scene in the 700 block of Spence Avenue around 2:30 a.m. on Monday, Calloway said.
Anyone with information pertinent to the case is asked to call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 735-2255.
The sergeant said police are still working to determine exactly what happened at the apartment early Monday morning.
"The investigation is ongoing, of course, and if we get to a point if and when we make an arrest, that information will be forthcoming," Calloway said.
