"He was like a great big teddy bear," said David Jackson, pastor of Freedom Baptist Church in Goldsboro, shortly before balloons were released in honor of Mark Hill, 21, during a graveside service at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Princeton on Wednesday, July 8, 2009. Hill, along with Charles "Kirk" Kirkland Jr., 49, Terry Holland, 50, and Lisa Simmons, 41, were killed in a fireworks explosion on Ocracoke Island over the July 4th weekend. A fifth person, Martez Holland, remains in fair condition at the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center in Chapel Hill.
