Fleet of feet: Cures for the Colors welcomes everyone to step up to the challenge

It could be fun.

Running is seldom a good idea unless someone -- or something -- is chasing you.

OK, that's rotten advice. Running is great exercise and can do wonders for a person's mental health, maybe due to the focused breathing, the block of uninterrupted "me" time, the sheer physical exertion.

True, some of us prefer to reap those benefits through other means, but add a few friends and a wheel of colors to be splashed with into the mix and you've got yourself a day well-spent.

Add to it that all of the proceeds from the color run planned for this year's Cures for the Colors fundraiser will go to benefit local residents battling the dreaded "C" and it's a wrap.

There is going to be a half-marathon, a 5K and a team 5K option, as well as -- sign us up right here -- a 1-mile fun run. The latter two aren't timed and are color optional.

It seems they thought of everything.

So, why not? You can have color or no color, run alone or as a group, run as far as you want or only as far as you have to, and all in the name of contributing to a cause that either has or will inevitably touch us all.
