Building the ballot: Watch as midterm contests take shape

Filing is open for the upcoming midterm elections in November, and both incumbents and new candidates are tossing their respective hats in the ring.

We will bringing you updates throughout the filing period -- it runs through Feb. 28 at noon -- with who has filed and for what seat.

Most of our coverage going forward of any of the candidates will therefore be limited to the offices already held or matters in which they are involved that do not relate to their campaigning.

Candidates or their campaigns are free to purchase ads in the paper anytime they choose.

We will, of course, cover some aspects of the campaign season and all of the races that develop.
