North Korea: United States needs to tread carefully with Kim Jong Un

Relations between the United States and North Korea have deteriorated to the point that officials are calling this the lowest point between the two nations since the 1950s, when we were at war.

North Korea is intent on building a nuclear missile capable of striking the U.S. We are just as intent on stopping them. Luckily, we have the Chinese on our side. Chinese leaders warned North Korea last week that it would impose its own sanctions if it continues its nuclear testing program.

North Korea is using the presence of U.S. warships in the region to accuse America of trying to provoke a military response. We know we don't want any such thing, but North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is not what you would call stable, and there is no telling what might push him over the edge.

Sure, there are plenty of Americans who say we should go ahead and use military force. If you listen hard enough you can hear older folks say we never should have stopped short of total victory in Korea in the 1950s.

But war is not what we want. We should hope for a peaceful solution to this long running problem.
