Trump and education: President signs order giving more control to local educators

We don't agree with everything President Donald Trump does, or says, but we do like what he did Wednesday -- signing an executive order to cut back the federal government's role in the public schools.

The order will help give more control of the schools to local school districts -- something we heartily endorse.

No one understands your own needs and problems like you do yourself and the county Board of Education and local school district officials are the right people to come up with innovative ideas to make the schools in Wayne County the best they can be.

While on the campaign trail, Trump vowed to give more control over education back to the states and local school districts. The word of his action should come as welcome news to educators, whether they like Trump as president or not.
