Good cause: Take part in fundraiser and help send a youth to camp

The Salvation Army women's auxiliary will hold its annual barbecue fundraiser Thursday at lunch at the Salvation Army on William Street.

We hope you will take the time to participate in this good cause. Proceeds are used to send children to summer camp who otherwise might not have the opportunity.

The chance to spend time at summer camp is a luxury many children cannot afford. For decades, the Salvation Army's auxiliary has been providing the funds for these children to receive that camp experience -- getting into the outdoors, making new friends, learning about the world.

We support the Salvation Army in all its work, but this particular effort strikes a special chord. Getting a child or teenager to spend time at summer camp can be a rewarding, life-changing experience for a youth who might not otherwise get the opportunity.

The fundraiser will be held from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Salvation Army. There will be dine-in, take-out, drive-through and delivery orders for 10 or more plates.

In past years, much of the money earned has come from businesses ordering plates for their employees. Officials with the Salvation Army say they hope that is the case again this year. The number to call is 919-735-3811.
